2016 was a real active year. Just the month of December alone was real active, so it’s easy to have missed things. We’ve got you covered though with all the most notable moments and music from JSWISS in 2016.
As has been tradition for JSWISS for several years now, Swiss pays tribute to the late producer James Yancey a.k.a J Dilla by rapping over one of his many prolific instrumentals. “Give It Up” originally appeared on J Dilla’s Welcome 2 Detroit album and featured Jay Dee himself rhyming on it as well. Dilla would have been 41 years old today had he not passed in 2006 after a battle with lupus. Happy Dilla Day!
On this new single “Keep Shining” off of the Soulspazm Records-released ALLCAPSNOSPACES EP, JSWISS showcases his lyrical dexterity with lines like “You might spit a 64 and that’s nice dude/ Until I come back knocking you off of the map, spitting a haiku.” The track features some U’Nique Music production and an epic introduction from emcee K-Hill.
A standout track and one of the highest energy track off of JSWISS‘ brand new ALLCAPSNOSPACES EP, the U’Nique Music-produced “Move” gets the visual treatment. Directed by Johnny J. Jones, “Move’ is designed to get listeners to do just that. Fans can purchase the Soulspazm Records-presented ALLCAPSNOSPACES right HERE.
After much anticipation, the ALLCAPSNOSPACES EP, a project that HotNewHipHop said “is shaping up to be one of early 2015’s most promising new projects” is out NOW on iTunes. On the EP, JSWISS covers a range of topics from personal struggles, to race relations and abuse, to classic top notch wordplay.
ALLCAPSNOSPACES boasts production and features from J57, AltAir, U’Nique Music, Karen Bernod, Dasan Ahanu, Owen Hill Jr. and Daniel Crawford. Singer Chandanie and emcee K-Hill also provide additional vocals on the project, presented by veritable veteran label Soulspazm Records.
JSWISS time travels from the future backwards through his life on the new single “Déjà Vu” produced by J57 of the Brown Bag AllStars. Listen as Swiss twists the tenses through anecdotes of his past, present, and future endeavors over funky J57 production, with electric bass played by Carter Lee of the hip hop/ jazz band Tiger Speak. “Déjà Vu” finds itself on JSWISS’s upcoming ALLCAPSNOSPACES EP, dropping January 13, 2015 on Soulspazm Records. You can pre-order the EP on iTunes right HERE.
JSWISS is happy to announce his next project to follow his 2013 Awthenticity LP, the ALLCAPSNOSPACES EP. ALLCAPSNOSPACES is dropping January 13 via Soulspazm Records, which has put out projects by the likes of Torae, Brown Bag AllStars, Marco Polo, Exile & more.
The 8-track EP will feature production and features from J57, U’Nique Music, Karen Bernod, AltAir, Daniel Crawford, Owen Hill Jr. & Dasan Ahanu. You can now pre-order the project on iTunes, and when you do you’ll get an instant download of the AltAir-produced track “Just Living.”
Millions of people around the country aren’t fortunate enough to depend on having meals everyday, let alone an especially nice meal for Thanksgiving. Photographer, videographer and one of NC’s best people Johnny J. Jones is doing something about with the 2nd annual Turkeys For DURM fundraiser, with the goal of raising enough money to donate 100 turkeys to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern Carolina. Last year Turkeys For DURM passed that goal and again this year JSWISS wants to help him out.
100% of proceeds from the sale of this track will go to Turkeys For DURM from now until Wednesday, November 19, when the fundraiser wraps up.
KG,B provided the crazy beat for this one, and he deserves credit for this banger and for contributing to the cause. Check him out and support at kazemde.bandcamp.com.
